Mulu National Park

From Kuching it is an hour and fifteen minute flight to Mulu. The only access to Mulu is by air or a long boat trip. Things are pretty quiet and relaxed in Mulu. A friendly lady with a beat up old car drives you three kilometers to the park entrance which is a suspended bridge over a small river. Here we checked into our bungalow which is right in the park. Immediately they assume you will sign up for a bunch of activities that necessitate a guide. These include cave tours, various walking tours, a canopy walk , boat tours , cultural stuff.  We signed up for a walk into Deer Cave. I was impressed. The main chamber is big enough to fit a football stadium inside it. It houses four million  bats of twelve species that consume 15 tons of insects every night.
